A nephew to Sigmund Freud, Bernays was one of the first to attempt to manipulate public opinion using the psychology of the subconscious. CORPORATE CAPITALISM AND CONSUMER CULTURE

For my third year research project I am thinking of researching how big corporations are using graphic design in mass media to create hyper-reality and a growing consumer culture in the world today.
I will start by researching popular culture, consumer culture, mass media and hyper-reality and the way that big corporations use graphic design to get these messages accross through advertising, How do they grab our attention and make us believe buying thier product or service will improve our happines, well being or quality of life.
I will also research how this is affecting society today and what might happen to society in the future.
